do you have a stick or manual tranny? I have the 6 speed and I kept the original oil for 200k miles. There is no factory service interval for the transmission oil so i ignored it and kept driving. Finally I decided I had to do something at 200k and changed the oil with Redline MTL. The MTL didn't shift as smooth so I switched back to the VW oil after 30k with the Redline. The 200k original oil was a little dark and burnt but it was still felt like oil should feel and now I will change the oil at the max of 100k.
I was doing a lot of commuting in LA at the time. Don't really miss it.
