The price for any piece of vacant land within 3 hours of here is 5, if not 10 times the price it was 3 years ago. We always wanted some land in the bush with a cabin or a trailer, but not now that we would need a mortgage to buy it. Sad really as the city people that buy them probably never go there.

Same here.
I was shopping as part of a 5 year plan that was put on hold due to the stupidity around the Covidian era.
We wanted to buy 5-20 vacant acres in North Florida as a get away / eventual full time home site as I phase out of the day to day of my company.
Prices went bonkers. So instead I am saving and waiting. When no one is buying, then I will. I am patient.
Someone stole my Pole Barn idea earlier in this thread. My first order of business is to build a decent size pole barn with a cement floor an RV can park under.
Place Septic / Well nearby to hook up to, and see about running power to the property. If not an option Generator will work until we are there for a longer duration then we will consider Solar + battery storage if Power cannot be run in cheap.
I have no problem being off grid.
Wife wants to build a small house on the land to eventually move to full time. The pole barn would then be converted into a screened in outdoor area with fireplace, outdoor kitchen, dining and general hang out area.
