Yea, as John said, the clips on the cable break, usually on just one side. It can look pretty secure, but don't trust that. Use at least two zip ties, and make sure they are tight. If the cable comes lose, it can cause a WOT or very high RPM situation.
That cable was not available at all for many years, but Porsche classic had some made up. They are an insane price, so unless you have a 100 point concours car, a few pennies worth of of zip ties will fix the problem.
I love my cruise control for the many long trips I make.
