A bit on folk's sound issues: We have a sound bar with sub woofer. I've noticed that on some shows I have to turn off the enhanced surround type sound (all are different so I don't know what to call it specifically). Essentially what I'm doing is focusing the sound to just provide the center channel voice and lessen the background music and other noises. On some shows it works great and is necessary.
Edit: if you are using only TV speakers that is also a problem. My 88yo FIL just got a new TV and a few weeks later was having me buy him a sound bar. The TV speakers were on back of TV and pointed at the wall. He was not getting good voice sound.
