These things look pretty cool, but with my luck, I will stick with the old school rubber. I think it is there for a reason. I suspect that a rigid metal stem mounted on a spinning car wheel at highway speed probably doesn't have to strike much mass in terms of road debris to crack or just snap off. A rubber stem can deflect and has a better chance of survival, doesn't require special thought to seal, etc. To each his own.
