Redridge... as Walt stated in post #12... regardless of what shifter you have, if the transmission is in 2nd, you should not be able to move your shift lever to the 3rd/4th plane. The mechanical connection between the shifter and transmission should prevent this. If this is happening, it's likely time to replace the consumable bushings in the stock shifter, shift rod, and coupler.

I haven't used any of the shifters, springs etc. mentioned already. I replaced a factory short shifter and stock coupler with the Numeric Racing shifter in the Spring of this year. The nice thing with the Numeric option is it includes all bushings and a coupler. All pivot points in the shifter and coupler have ball bearings. It's a 40% reduction, so I find it actually allows a deliberate shift but still quick because you have a shorter distance to travel... love it!
