I have a compulsion to follow them unfortunately. One of the problems of having a dream that is bigger than my bank balance! I’m working my way towards a nice drivable long hood and it seems to be getting closer now! M2 was kind and helped fuel the dream further with his nice yellow 86 Carrera. A joy to drive in the summer time.
I work for a Japanese company, so have had meetings and visited a few places in Japan. Mostly around the Hachioji prefecture, Shinjuku near the station (crazy place) and Amori out of the main Tokyo suburbs. Amori was beautiful in winter, even with the apple trees bare.
I can understand the distraction - especially compared to the cabin fever of Minnesota in winter! Even outdoor winter pastimes can be too cold here at times!

That is interesting your connection to Japan. Aomori is certainly famous for their apples! Sometimes small guys van them down this way selling a bucket load at a time for astronomical money (sort of). One showed up in my village in the hinterland a few years back on my doorstep, and I did buy some. I haven't been up there myself, but my Kiwi friend has trying to buy one of their saplings for $500. They finally said no, keeping their secrets close to their chests.
Same Kiwi's wife has an old friend there and she sent down a few boxes full of apples they couldn't sell with nicks or blemishes a few years back. He brewed heaps of apple wine from those -- last bottle we drank a couple weeks ago. Good wine, good brewer!
If you get back here one day and you have time to make it to the Kansai, look me up! I might just be on a 2 month holiday and can take you around some places if that's interesting.
