I love our Christmas Eve dinner, as it really defines the holiday for me. We eat too much, then relax with coffee before going to midnight mass. That relaxing time I put myself somewhere I can see the tree and other decorations and just sit quietly reflecting on everything that we have to be thankful for. This year my mom (89) was with us so extra special. This is one of about 3 holidays where my bride uses silver and China and that makes her happy. So to answer your question, for me yes the prep and subsequent cleaning are worth the effort.
Here is this years version of my prime rib. First cut is always too done for me, I serve myself last.
On a personal note I think my 2022 resolution will be to stop and smell the roses.
