Q: Kevin Hodgkinson do you have some background information about KMW? There is not much to find on the interweb.
A: Yes but sparse from back in the 1960s/early 70s - based in Bavaria, a small concern, but strong ties with Porsche - When Porsche had finished with their Type 916 -XP 6 Cyl Dohc Project, which gave birth to the Flat 8 - 3 L 908 Engine by adding 2 cyl to the 916 their 4.5 Litre Flat 12 912 for the new 917 Was the 916 X 2 @ 2.25 Litre - The spare XP 916s in the early 70s were donated to KMW for a new Sports Race Car- now just what happened I don't know, but the last time I was in the area near to Kempten, when I called their premises were empty - circa 1974 - KMW were the initials of the 3 partners who originally worked for Porsche Racing in the late 50s early 60s, most of their own activity was either in Germany or Austria. with Mono Sports Racers mostly 906 Engine based ! But great people for sourcing Porsche Race Engine parts from Porsches own sub contractors in Germany at Cost !
