Apparently, the iPod FDRs will be able to record over 500 hours of flight data.
The smallest Cessna Citation that has a FDR is the 525B (CJ3), which weighs 14,075 lb MTOW. The FDR is required for commercial operational requirements in Europe. Europe requires FDR for commercial aircraft greater than 12,500 lb MTOW or 9 passengers. In the US, the requirement for FDR is only greater than 9 passenger seats.
Russian Aviation Register require an FDR for all commercially operated aircraft, regardless of size. Therefore a 172 that was to be certified for commercial operation in Russia would require an FDR.
