Those Metrolink trains are 3-5 cars. That's the line that runs from Palmdale to Union Station/ Downtown LA.
They had a crash back in 2008 in the Santa Susana Pass. Turned out to be an engineer on his cellphone not paying attention. I'm wondering if this is the same deal.

There was a stop in Sylmar/San Fernando before the train headed to Sun Valley.
I've ridden the train before, travel time between San Fernando and Sun Valley is approx 7 minutes. Seems like there would be enough time to notify.
