It's plastic, delrin I believe. I have one on the shelf for my 1986 930. A quick look at delrin specs says coefficient of friction to steel is .1-.3. Keeping it clean and dry will increase its life. Ask yourself, what's the lube I might apply going to collect in 20 years.
