Triggering Memories
While checking the weather forecast, I glanced at the historical data and saw the record for snow on the ground for this area:104 cm in 1981.
That was the week of three storms. The third was on Monday. I was working with one of our mixed route delivery drivers and eventually we were pushing snow with the bumper. The main road was closed so we parked the truck, called the office and advised them we were done for the day. Since the driver lived about a mile away, we walked to his place, I called my wife to say it was unlikely I would make it home and we had supper. Later that evening the wind dropped and the road was re-opened. We dug out my car and I made it home by 10 PM, having walked the last 1/4 mile. Our road wasn't plowed until 11, so we shoveled out our driveway and retrieved my car from the church yard.
Next morning I was with that driver again, helping him get caught up when the boss showed up asking if I could help another driver who had truck troubles. By the time his truck was fixed, we were about 5 hours behind schedule and were dealing with one lane roads in places. It was 8:PM when we finished.
Each day had started at 4 AM.
My wife had been shoveling our driveway and saw her doctor Tuesday morning complaining of cramps and fatigue. A quick test revealed the cause. She was carrying our son.
Best
