It's incredibly complicated to try and figure out when and how or why and how often a mother cat will relocate her kittens too.
They really have a weird chip for that, especially on a farm with other animals around, Shrapnels mother was almost full time preoccupied with that relocation bizniz.
And she was a tiny kitty with 3 kittens to much to feed for her.. 1 dropped off.. and only Shrapnel and Bernard his weaker brother survived.
Shrap came with me, Bernard stayed on the farm, by 8 months Shrapnel was twice Bernard's size.. I think he was the primus, the strongest of the next.. but also the different nutrition in the suburbs vs on the farm probably helped.
Bernard didn't make it, they don't neuter em on the farm and he ran under a car.
Luckily Shrap is very scared of noises and cars, and being neutered, he isn't as driven to roam..(those he still goes on the street at night, GPS tracker ones to figure out his movements)
It turned out that Shrapnell, even at young age was very much involved in picking fights with all the neigbor cats.
He simply just never backed down, and took out cats twice his size for only a couple of bites and abcesses in the process.
He lives up to his name.
this is the tank he was born next to and the hangard it happened :
