I've got a couple of cases where the upper driver's side transmission mount stud had been repaired with a Helicoil. Works just fine in the application. I had a transmission mount to body bolt hole with stripped threads and had it Helicoiled. Worked fine for 25 years or more, though I had to replace it recently. I can buy the Helicoil stuff at my local hardware store.
