I didn't read the article but what's wrong with everyone? The was an article in today's LA Times regarding the closing of prisons in CAA saying they are bad for people.

What is a good thing for a dude that shoots his girlfriend 22 times?

I'm reading a history book about CA and in the very early days of statehood, people were still grabbing thieves and murderers and hanging them from trees. I know I'm drifting OT, but remember CA was a state (1850) before a lot of the country became states west of the Mississippi. We didn't have a lot of direct connection to the Union, as it were. Those were the laws of the old West.
