The character of Danny was played by a different actor (Tim O'Kelly) in the pilot than in the rest of the series (James MacArthur).
The governor also...Lew Ayres vs. Richard Denning.
Lot of great episodes. Season 3, Episode 11 "Over fifty? Steal." featuring Hume Cronyn is one I really liked.
It was great watching these today, although I missed the last one because I had promised to bring a fish dinner over to Mom. Mom turns 99 next month so an easy decision to make there....

They redid "Cocoon" on the new series. The original was essentially an hour long advertisement for Hawaii tourism. Not much in the budget for reshoots and inserts. As you watch the next few seasons you'll see them jump into the 4 door Parklane, drive around and then the 2 door Marquis coupe will pull up to 5-0 headquarters. So much for continuity.
Jack lord had a lot of input and control of the show. Zulu (Kono) was a popular Hawaiian comedian before the show. Jack Lord had him fired for making a racial slur during the fourth season. I was talking with Eric Braeden on "Young And The Restless" who did a few episodes of the old show. He said Jack wasn't the most outgoing and gregarious actor he had worked with. Kind of kept to himself.
