Can you buy a new Porsche?

The title is a little sarcastic, but I sure am wondering.

I never bought a new Porsche and started by configuring a Cayman GTS and contacted 6 dealers with the code. Four dealerships never even responded.

Two others got back to me and said they didn't know if or when they could get me a car. No explanation why. One said if I agreed to $25,000 over MSRP they would see what they could do. The other said they don't sell above MSRP but would get back to me. Three days later he called to say if I agreed to pay at least $5,000 above MSRP he MIGHT be able to get a car in a year or so.

I asked if it is first come first served or if they collect orders and then sell to those individuals that were willing to pay the most over MSRP or configure the highest priced cars with the most options. He said he was offended and couldn't believe I would even ask such an insulting question. I reminded him he told me they don't sell above MSRP but now he wanted at least $5,000 above MSRP. The conversation went downhill from there.

I understand the supply chain issues but I was left feeling they could care less about selling me a car unless I agreed to be taken to the cleaners. I'll survive as I've had a Porsche for 25+ years but I see my favorite marque in a whole new light. I guess I've been a little niave.
