I like having a synthetic in a turbo-motored car. From the super high heat of the turbo, I want to avoid coking. Like others, I run Mobil 1 15w-50. I use that viscosity blend because it has the higher zinc levels that our motors need. It's also relatively cheap and easy to find.
I've used the VR-1 in the past, but the variety available locally was the non-synthetic version, and now I can't find it reliably anyway.
I've also used Brad Penn 20w-50 in the past. I don't think it's a full synthetic. But it's what my indy mechanic uses. I figure they rebuild a lot more motors than I do, so if they're good with it, then I'm willing to use it, too. However, I can get Mobil 1 shipped to my door for less than $60 for 10 quarts from Walmart, whereas I have to go over to my mechanic to buy the Brad Penn.
I'd also be willing to buy other brands,.like the M1 V-twin stuff, Royal Purple, Amsoil, Driven, etc that are touted on the Ultimate Oil Thread over on the technical forum, but again those are harder to find than the M1 15w-50.
