Some people can take them without any issues so I'm not advocating no one should take them.

But, if you have a high cholesterol issue it may be something that you don't need to manage.

Get a Calcium Score Screening, if you have no plaque build up then think twice about the meds.

If you are ~60 or older studies have shown that high cholesterol is associated with longer life absent atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases.

The argument is that higher cholesterol may have benefits with respect to all cause mortality which are deaths from unrelated factors like cancer which high cholesterol may help prevent.
