I've been on statins since the early '80s, when my cholesterol level was 282 the first time I was tested. I stopped it (Mevacor) after a few years because it didn't have any effect. I've been on three statins since and had negative reactions on them all. The one I'm on now (Rosuvastatin) I had to stop at one point last year because I was beginning to have another reaction. After three months my level was up to 358, and they couldn't come up with an alternative. The solution was to reduce my amount by half. So now I take one every other day, haven't had a recurrent reaction, and my level is somewhere around 215, which I consider OK under the circumstances. I take CoQ10 but don't notice any obvious benefit. I wish there were some new types of meds.
