Tip someone for handing me a cup of coffee or a bag of takeout food? Really? Where is the service? I want a tip for getting out of my car and walking to the counter to order and pay for my food.

Maybe we should tip the cashier at the supermarket for ringing up my groceries. How about you pay me a tip for going through the store looking for the items I had to bring to the register?

I'm old school. A tip is for good service. I will tip huge when the service is good.
Have a good friend from high school, who in school took a position at McDonald's. He never left, and has just finalized his third franchise.

People need to let go of their preconceptions of what is a respectable job and not. Teachers have threatened for decades that fail to learn and you will end up a garbage man, few if any every further explain that a garbage man out earns them by a pretty wide margin quite often. My wife took a part time gig with The Bay in high school, seasonal help through xmas, has had two employers in her life and now runs 16 stores for GAP Inc., out earning me healthily in the process.

"Marketable skill" is a widely misused term. When will knowledge of customer service, and food sales ever not be a marketable skill?
