If the noise is there when the wheels are not moving but the engine is running, presumably it’s not there when the engine is off. Is it there when the engine is ‘on’ but not turning? (before cranking starter)?

If it’s at idle with clutch in, then it’s not related to the rotating mass in the trans. It’s more likely then to be something else related to engine running and transmitting the noise into the trans case itself. Emissions equipment, fuel pump, exhaust rattle- it has to be something related to the engine spinning.
