Telemark/freeheel, with its (if you're doing it right) inside ski/back foot focused turn finally broke me of those 1980s habits.
Racing was fun-ish, but also it was a grind and led to the worst grades I'd ever gotten in college - but if you can learn to turn where they want you to you'll forever be better at turning where _you_ want to.
