I should’ve caught this, but our electrician and plumbing trade partners did not think ahead.
I need the generator switch within a 30” width, with a 36” approach. This means I can have the generator switch anywhere within that 30”, left, right, center, with 36 inches in the clear.
The water heater encroaches in the 30”, not to mention the fact I can’t open the generator switch cover all the way.
I could move the water heater, but it would look like ass, with extended waterlines, etc.
My thought is to move the generator switch to the left, where the cover would open and just miss the water heater.
I can drill a new hole at the bottom right of the box and slide it over 3-1/2”, so the cover clears the water heater.
Looking at the wires, it appears I will have enough slack everywhere to get this done. It will be tight where the wires come into the box from the back right where the wires come up from the bottom conduit. Maybe the bottom condo it can be moved slightly?
Lesson learned going forward and I’ve only done a couple, but does anybody see any pitfalls in what I’m thinking?
Edit: I need to swap the water heater gas line for an exterior approved type.
