Yes, it did. It is, by all accounts, a fantastic airplane. But - its initial per unit cost was pushing $400 million, at the time a 747 or 777 was about $120 million. Back to John McDonnell's guaranteed government contract. No way they could have ever survived the competitive world of commercial aviation like that. It's easy to "excel" when cost is no object, when the customer has bottomless pockets.
