I have a 2004 TT with about 200K miles. I change the oil now and then...probably at over 10K miles. Never the transfer fluid. I top off the antifreeze when the sensor tells me it is low.
Something wears out or breaks now and then. I have had to replace the AC compressor (it was making a horrible noise that was being transmitted into the drive line...thought I had spun a rod or worse.
I replaced the blower fan, the fuel pumps and paid to have the radiator lines replaced with aluminum ones. I also replaced the aux air pumps. I did the jimmy fix on the driveshaft that cost $7. I have replaced the battery once and the brakes, wiper blades, and tires more than once. I had the belt replaced as preventative maintenance. Now I need to replace an oxygen sensor.
It drinks a lot of gas and uses a lot of tires.
