While attending 9th grade while living on Guam, my Industrial Arts (Shop) class had a field trip to tour the USS Proteus. The ships hold seemed to be an enormous machine shop. One of the lathes had to be well over 100 feet long. We wanted to get on one of the subs parked along side but of course that was not allowed.
