I think the early years of schooling should be for making kids enjoy the process of learning. It should have challenges and rewards but always be involving at their level.
People will go through anything as long as they feel they are part of a group they can compete with on a friendly level and that has a saftey net/element of common sense. Blame it on parents/teachers/hollywood whatever but that ain't happening nowadays.
It's o.k. though, time on an engineering degree would be wasted because all those jobs are going to be outsourced.
