Hey thanks for the recommend Moneyguy1 - I should not have been quite so outspoken against Mutuals - they do fill a niche. I am a pretty experienced equity/derivative trader myself (own account -not a pro).

But I stand by the statement that the niche for mutuals is like the niche for Chevy Impalas at a race track. If you're just concerned about getting to the finish line and can't be bothered understanding cars or racing - go for it. Just be aware that there are probably much better ways to finish the race - if you take the trouble to match the best possible car to your driving style, skill and budget.

The income/royalty trust sector is where I'm heavily weighted these days. I'm there basically as a defensive play, but the sector offers some fabulous income opportunities. I'm uncomfortable with the sustainability of the business model in many areas - but I'll keep cashing 2% or more per month dividend checks out of the energy sector for a while yet.
