Celtics? Not so fast.
Most folks think of Scots as Celts. Indeed, in the southwestern part of the country, that would be a safe bet.
While I was working in tourism, I had a few instances when I was talking with people I assumed were from northern Europe only to find out they hailed from the north eastern part of Scotland. I was puzzled by my erring ear until I read an article on the Doric influence in that part of the country. I was indeed hearing northern European sounds, just 15 generations removed. Hold-overs from the time the Norse ruled that area.
I shouldn't have been surprised. If your family came from Yorkshire, chances are your DNA is heavily Scandinavian.
Sometimes you just have to trust your ears.
