Some more background info.. 100th mission meant return home from SEA
This was not his 100th mission , but it was his last combat mission over North Vietnam.
He had 156 official , 100 over NVietnam but He probably flew at least half more combat missions over N vietnam
West Point graduiate, Olds as Wing Co, would regulary go into the ops room and wipe out his own missions so he could fly more missions before being recalled.
He also didn't score all his kills for the same reason , fearing he would be recalled once he turned triple Ace, his double Ace count of WW2 + Ace in Vietnam
So he gave a way a number of kills to other pilots.
When he was asked by LBJ what was needed to improve things in Vietnam, he replied
"Just win the it"
And that was the end of the meeting with LBJ who was pigheaded and didn't like being told what to do.
