Speaking of safety, I just risked my life

Doing something stupid, of course. Not sure if I had a buddy over would have prevented it, though.

Story goes:

We have a powder room right next to the kitchen. A couple weeks ago, the handle breaks on the toilet. No big deal, new handle, all done.

Nope. From replacing the handle, it was enough to disturb the flap seal, and now the toilet leaks, and the water runs. Mansfield, so not your typical flapper style.

Okay, hit the go button on the parts cannon. I just ordered a whole rebuild kit for the toilet. Less than 50 bucks, including shipping, from the manufacturer.

It shows up today, so I decide to go ahead and fix it. Simple project, drain the tank on the toilet, remove tank, and replace all the bits with new bits. Reinstall tank.

I drain the tank, sop out the last of the water and remove the tank. I start cleaning the silt and eroded rubber from the bottom of the tank, when a Brilliant Idea strikes me. Here I am, wiping the inside of the tank, when I have a huge sink in the room right next to me with running water.

So, as any reasonable male would do, I took the tank to the sink and started washing it out.

While I was busy rinsing the tank, I did not detect my wife wandering into the kitchen.

At that point I was informed that my Brilliant Idea, was not indeed, a Brilliant Idea but something quite the opposite, and very positively Not Acceptable.

Chastised, I quickly reassembled said toilet, made sure it didn't leak and scrambled out of there.

How did I risk my life?

Well, had my wife wandered into the kitchen just a few minutes later, she would have caught me loading the tank into the dishwasher after I finished rinsing it in the sink.
