When my brother an I were kids and he was fooling around with porting on his Komet kart engine, we'd heat the cylinder up in Mom's oven so we could press the liner out.
To get it back in we'd freeze the liner and heat just the cylinder, then quickly slide them together making sure they were aligned properly.
Mom was very understanding of her sons and our desire to do stuff like that. My brother once built his 283 SBC in the family room because it was too cold out in the garage. That was one clean engine. Painted with Rustoleum on the inside so the oil would drain better too.
We never did any washing of parts in the dishwasher though.
