For all of my utilities, except the city water bill, I have them average the payment. So month after month it is the same payment, and it only gets adjusted once per year based on use and fuel costs.
I remember vividly the bad ol days of wondering how I could pay a utility bill. I bought my first house before I really should have. I was tired or renting, and kinda rushed into the house ownership bit. Between the mortgage at 12.5% and the utilities, and insurance and all the other expenses of a house, I was eating a lot of beans or rice. As a single man, and only one income it was tough. I got back into shooting weddings and that got me liquid but destroyed my weekends.
Now I just love getting a utility bill and seeing the phrase DO NOT PAY THIS BILL on it. I really should have them all delivered paperless, but I still like seeing a utility bill I don't have to write a check to pay. I never have to worry about forgetting to pay it, and I can go off on a vacation and know it all gets paid on time.
