But a common ancestral design. Actually it’s kind of funny how much the two engines look alike, considering how few parts they share. And of course you can pretty much pluck out the Porsche motor and plug in a bug, without significant mods.
My first 356 was a faded silver (between grey primer splotches) ‘60 coupe, with a 40 horse VW motor. I owned it at least 6 months before I figured out it wasn’t a Porsche motor back there. Didn’t care. It was so damn much fun to drive. That was in high school, and it cost me all of $600. The world was a better place.,,,
