I have a number of four cycle engines for radio controlled model aircraft. They run on the same glow fuel (about 75% methanol, 10% nitro methane, 15% castor oil or some modern synthetic), and utilize a glow plug, just like the two strokes. They do not have oil sumps, tanks, or pumps. Lubrication is through blow-by.

Not knowing what mix he ran this on with either the gasoline or the glow fuel, I'm going to guess he didn't have enough of, or the right kind of oil. Or both. It should actually run cooler and last longer on the glow fuel than it would on gasoline, so I think he is wrong about the damage occurring due to the glow fuel.
