Rant about the DMV and vin discrepancy

So I recently purchased a Euro 911. Before buying I matched the title vin to the trunk vin and found a discrepancy. 1 digit was off (7th). This is a filler and "Z" signifies euro/row. The trunk shows Z, the title a 6. The A pillar was missing, but im certain it would have also had a Z. I did read about US cars have ZZZ in the trunk but the vin on the A pillar being APO. This made me wonder at first if this car was US, but the rest of the digits matched a Euro vin.

So I can register it as normal in MD and never think about it again. I mean I have a 60 beetle riding around on a 64 title. This bothers me though as it is something someone screwed up. So it should be a simple fix in 2022 right? Wrong, DMVs are so archaic in nature they probably run on cobol.

In order to get it corrected I need to send in the signed title from NJ with a pencil transfer of the vin and $60. They will then send me a new title. Great except the guy that sold it lives in FL. I could just forge the back like so many others probably do. So then I have to wait for all that to be able to legally drive the car.

Option 2 is a better option. I register it in MD as planned. Then when I get the title I call up MVA and say "hey, you all screwed up one of the digits." Then get it corrected here and not have to worry about all that red tape.

Not sure why, in this technological world, there is not a simplistic way to correct it. Take a picture with my phone, send it to DMV NJ and then they issue a title or some amendment that MVA (MD DMV) could understand and issue the correct vin on the new MD title.

Ok rant over.
