i guess it was less light hitting my eyes thus allowing more open pupils. Honestly though it was almost eery just how different it looked.

My guess is that it had more to do with viewing angle. Most flat panel TVs have an image that varies quite a bit as the angle of view changes from perpendicular. My guess is that you could get up and walk to the side and see a similar image.
