Like you, Charlie, I'm 63, active, and trying to ward off the aging process. I take one medication for my prostate but no supplements. I never take any pain medication unless I've had a surgery.
Stretch every day, many times a day. First thing I do each morning is put on my sox and undies from a standing position rather than sitting on the edge of the bed.
3 times a day morning, noon and night, Plank, a few pushups, stretch...It makes a huge difference and it feels nice. I really notice the planking while I'm climbing on my bicycle. If I don't do it for a few days, I miss the core strength to skedaddle up the hills in the manner that I'ver become accustomed.
I'm currently working on my 'asian squat', doing what I need to do to make that happen. I'm especially stiff in my ankles, and I've had one hip replacement and am trying to avoid the second round, and loosening the muscles and tendons required to get low and get back up again really helps to move easily for long periods on my feet, such as on long hikes.
I will say this, cycling leaves less residual soreness by a vast margin than does hiking, at least for me.
