I have a friend here in the US who has set up a process for titling cars with lost titles and/or cars from states that do not use titles. I pinged him on this thread, and hopefully he'll pop in. It's a slightly complex process but solves the problem here in the US.

Kon ban wa techweenie! Thanks a bunch for the good insights! I saw your friend chimed in too. I will consider this route as time goes on. If I go this route, first I have to find a US buyer, for which haven't advertised yet or even thought about really at all. However, with the JPY vs USD exchange, I thought about going that route. Momentarily, I have farmed this car out to a Pommie, who is 2 hours away -- we transported the car to his place 2 months ago. Glen has tried to sell it, and he is good (since early 90s he had a company in Ashiya exporting 200-250 cars a month, company since been sold twice once to an Aussie, and now to a Kiwi). We have a Japanese collector who has about 50 cars who wants it, but he's still poised, talking to his lawyers how to get the title, so he hasn't bitten yet, but still very interested. It would be nicer to sell it here (even as parts car status) and let them battle domestically for the title with my guy in process, or their lawyers. I won't wait forever for that. We'll see but in the event I export it, bottom line will need a buyer up front who puts their hand up.
I could always export the car and bring it back into Japan after 3 months. All data disappears then on DVV. Start from scratch on an import blah blah. Not interesting to me due to the hassle and extra costs. Dealer car here though with low Ks. If I wait longer, the title will probably come. I don't want to wait. I want to get on to another car. The difference in price won't make any difference at all really.
