It is Steve. And while it is everything I said it is in my OP, it is definitely not a Disney film. If it were, it wouldn't be special like this movie is. Instead of stop animation it would probably be CGI. And it wouldn't be the same.
It is definitely an A24 film. The same company that brought us:
Everything Everywhere All at Once
The Lobster
Zola
Room
Moonlight
The Lighthouse
and X among many others.
It's their first family movie so even though it's a little weird (the aforementioned push the scale), it's completely accessible. And everything else I said in my OP.
It's quirky. Delightfully quirky. And worth seeing, big screen not critical, first time I've ever said that. Might even be more intimate at home.
