Have peltor electronics, they work real well.
Never liked the in ear plugs, irritates my ear canal and i just don't think they muffle well. enough or fall out like you experienced.

Hearing damage piles up, and previous damage sure gets triggered by new hits.
Once had a 45 go off by my ear without ear pro, the good old ringing for a day and luckily no permanent tenninitis.. but my right ear sure don't like loud noises now..
