I bought a Rolex Explorer from a dealer in Dallas about 20 years ago. Along with that watch, I bought two other 18 karat gold watches on straps, nothing terribly exotic but not a bad sale for the guy. I had been trying to buy a Milguass, because I worked in a field where that watch would have been useful but I couldn’t get any dealer to even so much as put me on a waiting list for one, because of all of the “look at me” narcissistic little ****heads that were trying to buy it at the time. So I gave up and bought the Explorer.
I was *****ing about this to the guy and he said that, you weren’t anything special to a watch dealer unless you routinely dropped a quarter million dollars on some useless little extravagance.
When I first started buying serious watches 40 years ago, that market didn’t exist. Nowadays, the sky’s the limit and there are thousands of buyers out there buying and selling a dozen watches a year. 20 grand here, 75 grand there, certain watches get hot for a while and everybody has to have one and it’s just gotten ridiculous.
**** those guys and **** Rolex for catering to the stupid little bastards.
