It seems a common problem with these is the wiring crimp on the flow sensor. The factory process doesn't seem to provide adequate force to cut through the insulation and make proper contact. This machine had that issue, so I suspect it hadn't been used as it wouldn't heat the water properly or make a full cup. Basically, the control thought there wasn't enough water and shut it off. Less than ten minutes with a screwdriver, multimeter, and a pair of needle-nose pliers and it's perfect. 98% off the new price.
