Fewer trip hazards and easier on the Dachshunds.
I'm trying to remember how many times I've lived in 1 story homes. The house that we were in when I was 3-5 was a small 1 story. I remember two times of 6-8 months that we lived in 1 story homes. I lived in an apt for a year when I was in college that was only 1 floor. I've probably live in about 15 different homes, townhouses, or apts over the years, and since I was 5, I think I've only spent 1-2 years living anywhere that I didn't have to go up at least a flight of stairs. I like multi-story, probably just because it's what I'm used to. I feel like there are benefits, like better for heating/cooling and more yard for the same sized lot.

Our old mini dachshund hurt his back and ended up needing surgery because of stairs in our old home. We didn't know that their backs were a common weakness.
