Just throwing this out here, as I think this is absolutely wrong on the manufacturers part, I'm now more than certain I've seen it in person.

My neighbor Bob was a Korean War Vet. He was 91 last year when his cub cadet tractor wouldn't start. He bought it new, it was built in February 2014. His yard is perhaps less than 1/4 acre total with the house. Residential size lot. Bob seemed to always have his mower on a charger. I helped him last September get it going by cleaning up the fuel system as he had water in his fuel. Anyway, I distinctly remember the engine hour meter indicating 755 hours. I thought wow Bob, you've done some time on this thing! By December Bob's health had suddenly declined and Bob wound up in assisted living across the country. I'm helping Bob's son the POA deal with his home and of course, the mower. We moved the mower yesterday and I noticed it was indicating 820 hours. There is absolutely no way Bob put 65 hours on the machine between September and December of last year. So now, indicating 820 hours on the hour meter, it's a hard sell in passing it on. And that's a shame. I'd guess the actual engine hours on the mower are probably between 100 and 200 hours total. It is that clean.
