My granny was similar. VERY sweet. I think it was 2 cups of sugar per gallon.
I took a bunch of friends from college to their place. I didn't think anything about the tea. Several of them were shocked, but then were addicted and couldn't get enough.
I never make her tea myself, or haven't in 10-15 years. When I visit my mom, she makes it while I'm there for nostalgia's sake. And even then, the last time that I was there, once we finished the first pitcher, I told her not to make more. It's so good, but since I'm not in my teens/twenties, I try to avoid too much of that sort of thing. I feel it when I overdo sweets. (and I don't have a sweet tooth, ALL of my teeth are sweet
