I think the main problem that you'd have with mounting binos on that is that you'd probably not want to look at anything higher than 45-60º (and even 60º would probably require some serious contortions) off the horizon. I think that's why parallelogram mounts are so popular for binos. Many/most scopes have the viewing eye piece at 90º to the scope, so it's not a big deal for scopes.
That's part of the reason that when I was planning to get huge binoculars, I was going to get a set with 45º prisms.
