It appears that it is just "time", I talked to a shop that specializes in rear differentials and h3 told me that he currently has 5 in, which is unusual, but all are just a few years apart. Kinda like the 944 engine fires that are all of the sudden "happening " as the fuel lines have aged.
1st I thought it was the transmission , but the drive shaft still moves. And the only option is a new one from Toyota for $3,500.
